  • Teach your kids to cook dinner for you! Join Slow Food in the Tetons is partnering again with Farmstead Wyoming for online cooking over Zoom for kids ages 6-13 from the comfort of your own kitchen. Instructors Ian McGregor & Orion Bellorado teach fundamental culinary skills including baking, sautéing, and knife techniques. We will cook a variety of kid friendly meals from around the world in each session with an emphasis on expanding food horizons for families. Parents can expect a dinner course for four people at the end of each class.

    CLASSES: Classes run every Wednesday for five weeks and are offered at 5:30–7:00pm MT with recordings sent after each class to accomodate busy schedules. Please select the session(s) you’d like to join below.

    AGES: Available to kids aged 6-13 and depends on parents level of involvement and comfort with potential dangers of cooking (cuts, burns, etc). Many parents participate in each class and often report learning skills alongside their kids.

    SESSIONS: 

    • October 8 – November 5 
    • November 12 – December 12 
    • January 3 – February 4
    • February 11 – March 11
    • April 8 – May 6

    SUPPLIES: Recipes for those five weeks will be sent the week before the first class starts allowing parents to shop and be ready with supplies for each class.
    Students will need access to a kitchen stove, oven, and basic kitchen tools and equipment.

    Internet access and a device, such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone to login to Zoom. 


    TUITION:

    $125 per student per session 

    $150 per session for local students who would like to pick up a local food box

    LOCAL FOOD BOXES: We are excited to offer this session's participants a surprise box of fresh, seasonal ingredients to highlight our vibrant local and regional food network! Please note that these boxes are a one-time pick up with contents that are intended to last for the entire session. They will be incorporated into upcoming recipes and will supply some of the needed ingredients. Shopping for additional ingredients will still be necessary.

    Boxes will be available for pick up on the Thursday before the first class of your session from 1-5pm at the Slow Food Online Marketplace pick-up (890 US Hwy 89). Parents will be sent a reminder email for pick-up. 

     
    CLASS NOTE: Please do not include friends or additional visitors without obtaining advance permission from the instructor. The classes are carefully planned to allow individualized instruction and completion of recipes within the 90-minute time frame. Additional participants may hinder the instructor’s ability to help each student complete their recipe(s).

    REFUND POLICY: Full refund is offered until one week before the first class. 

    MISSED CLASSES: Classes will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be available for any students who miss a class or would like to review the material.

    DIETARY PREFERENCES AND SUBSTITUTIONS (i.e. vegetarians, dairy free, gluten free, etc.): Specific food allergy substitutions will need to be made by individual families, and substitution suggestions will come with each recipe for common food allergies such as gluten, diary, and nuts.

  • Expectations for Online Cooking Class Participation

    Cooking class students are expected to:

    1. Be supervised by an adult in case of an emergency and to assist in locating kitchen supplies and equipment.
    2. Shop and prepare supplies before the start of class.
    3. Have a device ready with internet access and Zoom capability and login 5 minutes before the start of class.
    4. Listen carefully to instructions and follow safety recommendations provided by the instructor.
    5. Be respectful of the instructor and other students in the class.
    6. Have a great time, enjoy good food, and learn a lot!!

  • Slow Food in the Tetons Cooking Camp/Class Liability/Risks Waiver Acknowledgement, Assumption of Risks and Waiver of Claims For Minors

    Please read carefully before signing. This document includes a release of liability and waiver of certain legal rights. You must fill out one for each child participating in Slow Food Summer Camps or Cooking Classes.

    In consideration of my child being permitted to participate in cooking classes with Slow Food in the Tetons, I agree to the following provisions:

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISKS
    I understand that my child will be exposed to a variety of foods and plants. I understand there are numerous inherent risks associated with participating in any farming and cooking activities, including but not limited to using sharp knives, operating hot stoves, boiling water, hot oil, ovens and heating elements, operating kitchen equipment, operating basic farming tools (like shovels), outdoor cooking hazards and outdoor weather conditions and hazards. I give permission for my child to participate in Slow Food in the Tetons cooking classes and in all associated farming and cooking activities, including those described above. I acknowledge and assume the risks involved in these farming and cooking activities and for any damage, illness and injuries that could be caused to my child from such risks. There are no physical, emotional or mental problems or limitations, including any food or other allergies, associated with my child’s participation in farming and cooking camp activities except as disclosed by me in writing to Slow Food in the Tetons.

    RELEASE, WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION
    I, on behalf of my child, hereby release and waive any claim or prospective claim of liability by my child or by me on behalf of my child, against Slow Food in the Tetons, their employees and agents, with respect to any injuries, illness, damage or death occurring to my child while he or she participates in any and all Slow Food in the Tetons cooking classes.

  • Photo/Video Release for Minors

    I hereby authorize Slow Food in the Tetons to publish photographs taken of my child for use in Slow Food printed publications, website and social media. I acknowledge that I will receive no financial compensation for photographs of my child. I release Slow Food in the Tetons, its board members, employees and agents from liability for any claims by me or any third party in connection with my participation in the above stated use of photographs of my child.

    I understand that Slow Food in the Tetons is a non-profit organization and that use of photographs will be limited to educational, non-commercial purposes.

    I understand that ZOOM cooking classes may be recorded, and that a link to the recording will be sent to any students who miss class or choose to review the material. These recordings will be limited to educational, non-commercial purposes.
